Sarah Jane is a native of Metairie, Louisiana, where she graduated summa cum laude in May 2002 with a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance from Loyola University, New Orleans, under the voice direction of Philip Frohnmayer. In May of 2004, she completed her Masters in Voice/Opera Performance at The Yale University School of Music under the voice direction of Doris-Yarick Cross. At Yale, Sarah Jane performed at the historic Shubert Theater in downtown New Haven as Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Suor Genovieffa in Suor Angelica, Nella in Gianni Schicci, Doralice in Il Trionfo Dell’Onore, and Lucinde in the world premiere of Le Medecin Malgre Lui. She is the Recipient of the Blake Stern Scholarship for Academic and Vocal Excellence at Yale University, a Metropolitan Opera Regional Finalist – Western Region, New England Region and Gulf Coast Region, a Miami Grand Opera Finalist, a winner of the Schuyler Foundation for Career Bridges, and a Theodore Presser Scholar.
In April of 2006, Sarah Jane made her debut with New York City Opera singing Galatea in their production of Handel’s, Acis and Galatea. Sarah Jane was hand-picked by Placido Domingo to be a Resident Artist with Los Angeles Opera, where she performed the role of Naiad in Ariadne auf Naxos, covered Musetta in La Bohème, sang The Milliner in Der Rosenkavalier, and covered Nannetta in Falstaff. Sarah Jane performed Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance with The Colorado Symphony/Central City Opera, sang a Metropolitan Showcase Concert in Palm Springs, California, and made her debut with New Orleans Opera in April as Valencienne in The Merry Widow. She also sang Maria in West Side Story with Tulane Summer Lyric, Cleopatra in Giulio Cesare with Opera Theater of Connecticut in August.
Some of Sarah Jane’s other operatic performances include Adina in The Elixir of Love, Rosina in The Barber of Seville, Adele in Die Fledermaus, and Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance. A dancer for over 15 years, she is also known for her musical theater performances of Josie Cohan in George M!, Jenny Lind in Barnum, Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls, Flaemmchen in Grand Hotel, Maria in West Side Story, and Cassie in A Chorus Line. This past summer she performed Isabelle/Madeline in The Face on the Barroom Floor and Kathie in the student performance of The Student Prince with Central City Opera. She received the Guild Award for Outstanding Apprentice Artist.
